Community Peace Radio - Community Health

Community Peace Radio Show #29

Date:  09 May 2009

Topic:  Community Health

Participant:  Yolanda Cruz (Coordinator, San Miguel Family and Community Health Council)

Co-Hosts:  Pat Leahan, Arielle Hawney

Summary:  We first talk about the annual International Migratory Bird Count, happening today all over the world, including here in San Miguel County, NM (a major bird flyway in North America). We hear the difference between the Snow Goose and Canada Goose, and the Bald Eagle vs. Red-Tailed Hawk.  Yolanda talks about the San Miguel County Family and Community Health Council "health survey" currently being conducted, and how folks can participate. Current priorities of the Health Council include issues related to teen pregnancy, diabetes and obesity, and interpersonal violence (e.g., domestic violence, child abuse, and sexual assault). Their resource directory is available online at smhealthcouncil.org and lists many organizations around town that offer services to the community.
