Topic: Compartiendo Semillas -- First Annual Las Vegas Seed Exchange (live-remote)
Participants: Lee Einer, Andrea Einer, Miguel Angel, Don Bustos, Aztec Dancers
Co-Hosts: Pat Leahan, Curtis Sollohub, Dennis Lopez, Fiona Whitten
Summary: We do a live-remote from the campus of Luna Community College where the first annual Las Vegas seed exchange is being held. The event is co-sponsored by Casa de Cultura, Las Vegas Barter Hours, Sustainable Las Vegas, and the Tri-County Farmers Market. Local farmers, local gardeners, and local citizens come together to share heirloom organic seeds and gardening information. The Aztec Dancers facilitate the opening ceremony, which includes drumming, dancing, and the blessing of the seeds. The LCC Culinary Arts Program provides a yummy lunch. Special guests that speak later in the day include Mora farmer and activist Antonio Medina, Acequia Liaison Hilario Rubio, and Española farmer Don Bustos. We visit with Lee and Don to learn the difference between commercial corporate genetically-modified seeds vs. heirloom local organic seeds. Don helps to oversee a Farm-to-School Program (see below for contact information). The entire event is free.

Pat'sExtraNotes: Thank you to Curtis for running the studio today, despite being double-booked. Apologies for the technical difficulties; A "feedback" problem interfered with sound quality. Today is also El Cerrito Acequia Cleaning Day! Happy Birthday, Kelly.
