Community Peace Radio Show # 123 Date: 16 July 2011 Topic: Social Justice Tunes (and the annual NABA butterfly count announcement by Sonya Berg) Participant: Dave Chavez Co-Hosts: Pat Leahan and Arielle Hawney Summary: Sonya Berg began our morning show by talking about the upcoming North America Butterfly Association annual butterfly count for San Miguel County. We discussed the importance of citizen science, the contributions made by our local Hermit’s Peak Watershed Alliance, and asked for volunteers to help conduct this year’s count. The main portion of our show was our tune-savvy friend and former local DJ Dave Chavez. He brought a nice selection of underplayed social justice tunes to spin on the air with us. Artists included Rodriguez (“Rich Folks’ Hoax), Utah Phillips (Utah Phillips), Billy Bragg (Help Save the Youth of America) and Bruce Springsteen (Used Cars). Resources: North American Butterfly Association: http://naba.org/ Hermit’s Peak Watershed Alliance: http://www.HermitsPeakWatersheds.org/ Pat’s Extra Notes: Dave Chavez, among other neat pursuits, works at our great local El Fidel Restaurant, located on almost-the-corner of Douglas and Grand Ave. in Las Vegas, NM. Serving delicious meals, lunch and dinner, playing cool music and providing a gallery space for artists are only some of the great things that make El Fidel special. Another is their involvement in the Las Vegas Farm-to-Restaurant Program, which enables them to use locally grown produce and support our area farmers as much as possible, while providing delicious, nutritional meals to us! To learn more about the Farm-to-Restaurant Program, or to get involved, visit http://www.lvfarmconnection.org/ or call Lee Einer at 505-454-9079. Thank you, David Rovics, for our CPR intro music:
