Community Peace Radio - GEN (Growing Entrepreneurs Network)
Community Peace Radio Show #23
Date: 28 March 2009
Topic: EDC's GEN Program (Growing Entrepreneurs Network)
Participant: Nancy Philo, GEN Facilitator, LV-SMC EDC
Co-Hosts: Pat Leahan, Arielle Hawney, Curtis Sollohub
Summary: Arielle announces the details for the upcoming animal shot clinics, as well as the April 4th "agricultural co-op exploration" meeting. Arielle explains tonight's annual international Earth Hour, where people all over the world turn off their lights for one hour. The purpose is to raise awareness of global warming and the importance of energy conservation. We then move into the main topic of the show, which is a discussion of the Las Vegas-San Miguel County Economic Development Corporation's GEN Program (Growing Entrepreneurs Network), which is overseen by Nancy Philo. Folks in San Miguel County who have a creative idea for starting a new business can contact Nancy. She will network you with a board of local business people who will provide advice and guidance for your business idea. This service is free. Our local young people (middle school, high school, and 20-somethings) are especially encouraged to check out GEN. We also learn a bit about Nancy herself, who is a local artist, and has been doing some form of art for much of her life. She also writes an occasional column for the Las Vegas Optic newspaper.
