Co-Hosts: Pat Leahan, Arielle Hawney, Broadus Mobbs
Summary: Broadus draws pictures of creatures and makes origami birds "live on the air," and shares a bit about his interest in art. Jalila shares some of the beautiful poetry she has written, and how she finds her inspiration. Molly talks about her creative writing interests, and tells us that she recently wrote an anthology of poems. Cayla talks about how her poetry teacher at her school has inspired her. We then shift into talking about dance as an art form. Cayla and Molly discuss the history of the Las Vegas Children's Dance Theatre (overseen by Kathleen Kingsley), tonight's performance at Ilfeld Auditorium, and their upcoming trip to Jamaica for an international "DACI" dance conference ("Dance and the Child International"). Cayla's mom discusses the sacrifices and rewards of supporting the children in their dance interests. The Las Vegas Children's Dance Theatre is made up of youth from Robertson High School, Rio Gallinas School (West Las Vegas School District), and Memorial Middle School. They will be the only children's dance group representing the state of New Mexico at the international dance conference in Jamaica in August of 2009. We hear the music and description of two pieces that the LV Children's Dance Theatre perform: "Beyond Musical Chairs" and "I Dreamt There Was No War." Arielle shares some research showing the many benefits of having youth involved in the arts.
