Summary: We did a pre-recorded interview with Savannah Trevino-Casias in late November 2009, and aired it as part of today's show. Savannah is a thirteen-year-old aspiring writer who has a strong passion for writing and the environment. Our interview with her is the inspiration and centerpiece for today’s show. Though she lives in Phoenix, AZ, Savannah has family here in Las Vegas, NM and is working with local Highlands University English instructor Mimi McDonald as her editor for her project. In her manuscript, titled “Places of Our Imagination," Savannah combines fiction, poetry and illustration to tell a story about loyalty, the importance of the environment, working together, and the journey three friends take that involves all of these issues. Savannah hopes to have a complete draft of her story finished by August 2010, and we look forward to having her back with us again as she works toward publishing her book.
Additionally, we touch on the importance of conservation, biodiversity, and how critical preservation of the natural world is to our basic survival needs: oxygen to breathe, water to drink and soil to grow our food. Savannah, as a young person, addresses significant issues that folks of all ages need to take note of.
